always about the spirit of christmas, that you know, christmas is about, you know. our savior being born and, hope for -- [applause] >> doesn't get the applause in church but gets it here from billy ray. good job. you had a chance, this kentucky kid had to spend quality time in new york in the middle of sandy and sandy smashes in. in what way did it affect awe and what way did new york surprise you?. >> being in the middle of new york city when sandy hit, it was a, like for everyone it was a really different and strange time but what i got to see was the resiliency and the will of the people of this area to stand up and love each other, to help each other, to rebuild this city. this city a great city. this area, the people are strong. when stuff happens, they get back up and they dealt with it, you know, as well and as fiercely as it could be dealt with. i just think the humanity of the people, that is what overwhelms me. how the will of the people, was hey, we get knocked down, we get back up. new york city this whole area it has been an honor to be here during this time period. >> you're the perfect to be on our show not only are you a great american success story, you love this country. you are wearing the stars and stripes around your neck and your music is patriotic and love of country comes through. that is why you're loved on fox and friends especially during this holiday season. billy, ray. thank you very much. let's go to alisyn camerota. what is coming up next. >> thanks, brian. i'm joined by two people whose lives were turned upside down. we have pastor joseph his home and brand new business was destroyed. he only sat in his new office twice before the

storm hit. tell us what the storm looked like for you, pastor? >> quite honestly it was a privilege because as as pastor, and as someone who tries to lead by example i it was a privilege to be able to serve all those others who's lives were turned upside down. so instead of worrying and mourning and all of those things, i had the opportunity to help serve everyone else in the neighborhood. >> that's a wonderful perspective. and a wonderful silver lining. we know it could not have been easy. tell us stories from the neighborhood. >> our house happened to be the first house right on the ocean and it was literally ripped in half from top to bottom. the top half was removed and went two houses up the street and got stuck on a fire hydrant and sat in the middle of the street while all of my beautiful neighbors homes were completely devastated. it was very, very difficult. >> we can hear how painful that was. i want to bring in louise

bowman. you too lived through sandy. you have loads of grandchildren. this couldn't have been easy for your family. tell us what it was like? >> it was devstating. we lost everything, everything that you worked your life was gone. >> your home was destroyed? into yes it was destroyed. you feel helpless. we felt alone, if it wasn't for the people, the neighborhood, they brought us down food. hot coffee . it is there them. >> that is the beauty of children. we're so happy that you're here with us for this christmas celebration today. we really appreciate it. really an inspirational message. gretchen, let's go over to you. >> thank you so much, alisyn. today we're celebrating of

it didn't look like it at the time. it looked like a disaster. young unmarried teenage girl, couldn't find a place to deliver her baby. ended up having to go to a barn and the only place to lay the newborn was in the feeding trough intend for goats and animals. that wasn't a mistake. you see god wanted to show up in the most unlikely place because he wanted to remind us when we think he can't find us, when we think somehow that he doesn't understand just how tough life is for us, actually he understands completely because there is no place that he can't find us. and there is no condition that he hasn't experienced. that is the real perfect christmas. >> thanks, governor. this may look like clark griswold's house but it is actually bob beckel's home. close enough. wait until you hear why he goes best second quarter with the decorations. >> my favorite christmas memory, christmas 1978, my

your love of reality television paid off in this case. tell us how the three of you came together and how you ended up auditioning for "america's got talent"? >> my wife and i always watched reality shows and thought it would be interesting to put country music and classical together. these are two of my best friends. they do a little bit of everything and we gave it a shot. >> you certainly do a little bit of everything, marcus because on the website describes you as combining, country, classical, broadway and classical and how do those things merge together. >> i don't know. wow, we love every genre of music. we're all three classically trained and we have country backgrounds. we love broadway and love gospel music. we're able to combine those and put on an entertaining show. >> your popularity has grown around the world, john. what was the time that you sat there and said, wow our lives have really changed? you have twitter followers

southern cuisine you actually helped a lot of people in our area very recently during the month of december who were sandy victims. >> let me tell you something, steve. we have been, smithfield and the uscw and myself have been trying to get up here since sandy struck. in fact we had everying lined up to come to be with awe, and then the nor'easter came. so we couldn't get n. two days ago, y'all, i spent the afternoon at a church with -- >> in staten aye land, right. >> in staten island and retired police and firemen [applause] >> these folks are from staten island. >> i know. god bless y'all. god bless y'all. i met some real heroes in your community the other day. smithfield, uscw and i brought in 1.4 million servings to y'all. >> that's amazing. >> in that area, of protein.

music with a double major in piano and organ. but for randall acheson, a near-death experience at 19 years old changed his life forever. so great to see you. >> thank you. >> i've come so blessed to know you are my children's piano teacher as well. such an amazing musician. you had this near-death experience at 19. you almost drowned. what happened? >> it was at a friend's engangment party. i had thrown him in body of water. i had never been in a body of water bigger than a baptist tri. i didn't know how to swim. i was 19-year-old. was in the julliard school. found myself in the water flailing around thinking how could this be happening to me at 19 years old. i can't swim. i know that dogs learn to swim and throw them in. i will manage but i wasn't. then all of sudden i left my body. my spirit just left my body and went into this incredible tunnel of white

light, the most brilliant light i've ever seen. i started floating effortlessly. the first thought was, my first piano teacher. then thought of my third piano teacher. i realized i had a good wonderful life, but i had practiced my whole life. how could i be dying? i was just getting started. then i realized it was pretty great, that being in this tunnel of light it was very the theerl. i did have a choice to struggle and go back or i felt i could simply release and continue in this journey and this tunnel of light. and i knew it was a wonderful, glorious thing. >> but you were saved? >> but i was saved but i did get so far as to see the face of godwell coming me into heaven and it was a beautiful cloud-like,

father-like face of god. >> how has it changed how you lived the rest of your life through your faith and your music? >> this changed my life to appreciate life here on earth but also to look forward to going to heaven. >> you say you don't fear death in any way? >> i have no fear of death. and i, if i can offer one message to people that have lost loved ones, or, and wonder what happens after death, for me, knowing god and going to god was the greatest blessing of my life so far, this near-death experience. >> well, i have had the privilege of hearing you perform so many times. many people often call it a religious experience. to hear you play. and now we're going to be blessed to hear you play a medley of christmas music. mr. randall acheson. >> thank you, gretchen. ♪

obsession with candy canes >> my mom used to go to queens and get these giant candy canes and i loved them. they were just huge, and i love candy. so that was great to look forward to >> thank you so much. merry christmas. >> what's coming up? >> the ohio -- fox news legal analyst gary >> john: jury and his daughters >> we're happy to share christmas eve again with you in early december we experienced what all of us do experience, the loss of a loved one. my giant of a father, went to heap after a long, wonderful life. he was nope as the protecter of the fallen and a voice for those without a voice >> we cried on my grandfather's passing and we wondered whether the hope of christmas would be dark 'ed. we always associated christmas with the joy he and my children

brought to children each year with their annual christmas part >> my grandmother and inning:decided it should be continued. the christmas party went on. the children laughed and the parents beamed as we raised funds >> on the day before the friday, a mad man slashed his evil in newtown. 26 lives were snuffed out. i asked myself, what could i do to help them ? i told the producers i needed to go there, and they said, peter, please go. >> the next morning my father and i arrived in newtown as the sun rows. the sky was streaked with red and i asked myself whether the clouds spent the night crying. my father wondered how can the skies be so bright on such a dark day. we went to the church where parishioners weeped and we lit candles in memory of the

innocents lost. later that morning i watched my father interview the pastor of the church. he described how he had broken the news of the death of one girl to her brother. we heard another boy say, i don't want to die, jest want to have christmas. my father noted that worshipers were watching a live nativity scene. the monsignor said we're not going to be looking for one, we're going to be looking for 20 new stars. the hope of christmas would not be sting ired >> astood in the cold connecticut air, touched with the souls of the sweet infants inurned -- understood the christ child. they're so young, who will great them at the door? we said our goodbyes and i prayed for the spirit of olivia engel, who was to be an angel in

the christmas pageant. on that day i prayed that the families, if they were believers, would draw on that faith, too. and then it came to me. i wanted a hug and reawe sure them that the strongest, most nurturing garden of fallen angels i know, my open lost father, would be standing among those at the gates of heaven to 0 lovingly take the children by the hand to introduce them to their new friend forever, the christ child named jesus, born in a little town called bethlehem >> as we left newtown were we more hopeful when we arrived. we passed a shrine for the children, and as the sky turn from red to blue, the radio playedded ang yells on high. on christmas day, the carolina will be sung >> we wish you a blessed, joyful and hopeful christmas. cooking a

sensations. ♪ ♪ ♪ >> then the piano guys, five dads from utah scored a major recording contract. joining us now with their incredible story are the piano guys. thanks so much for coming out here, guys. a year and a half ago you were all just a middle aged guys living in utah. >> we still are. >> i guess except for -- you are 27. you are the youngster of the group. the rest of you. a year and a half later a major recording contract. tell me, i just want to find out, steve, how has your world changed and how did this happen? >> it was spontaneous. miraculous circumstances. we're are all from five different walks of life. all of our lives crossed in a small piano store in a piano store owned by paul. wants to practice. there is a piano mover that happens to edit well. i move into this guy's street we start writing songs together it just sort of gelled. >> organically.

do you things with instruments including the piano things we have never seen before. it's totally unique in the music industry. john, let me ask you, you also do things with songs that we have never heard. you have one direction a song we never saw a classical side too. how do you pick songs and know they are going to work here? >> we pick the songs that sometimes you know they are popular songs. we try to make them authentic and then we record them on a cliff and lift a piano up a thousand feet or get on a train you have a lot of fun doing it we are going to show some of that here are the piano guys. ♪ ♪

>> welcome back, everyone to a "fox & friends" christmas. nearly two months after hurricane sandy destroyed homes and lives, the images are still shocking, but, out of the destruction there were stories of amazing sacrifice. in queens, new york, two sisters organized hundreds of volunteers to help those stranded, long before fema and the red cross even could arrive. over in brooklyn, 18 staff members at the brooklyn aquarium risked their own lives to save the lives of those that they loved so much, the animals. the people you are about to meet embodied the true spirit of christmas. they are sisters jamie and jill jordan. and john dolland, director of the new york city wildlife conservation society. and they are my guest. so great to see all three of you. >> thank you. >> it's such a true christmas story in the wake of the destruction that we went through here on the east coast with the hurricane. john, let me start with you. you, amongst 18 other staffers

at this aquarium, you stayed there when you probably should have gone home to take care of maybe your other families but you stayed there for the animals. >> right. well, you have to understand everybody who works at the new york aquarium works there because they love animals. they are comifted to wildlife and comilted to caring for these animals. even though it was a voluntary situation for all of us, we really felt like we had no choice. >> gretchen: what were. so dangers that you were facing as the storm came bearing down. >> it sits on 14 acres right on the atlantic. we were worried about the animals obviously but we were taken by surprise by the extensive flooding that occurred. so, i think all of the staff was concerned. we were key employed around the aquarium. waiting out the storm was a huge issue and safety issue. i think we were all just worried as we could be about the aquarium itself. a lot of our animals are down and exhibits in the basements which were flooded with

15 feet of water it was pretty stressful. >> gretchen: what was the survival rate of the animals. >> we lost almost none of our animals past the initial surge. fresh water fish out in outdoor ponds so things were lost immediately. but, beyond that the staff worked day and night literally we stayed there for a week working just to keep those animals going and to keep the systems going that would make them safe. >> gretchen: from animals to human lives. you are looking at two sisters. i mean, normally sisters, i have one, we love each other, sometimes we don't always just want to hang out together all the time but the two of you decided to bond together and help the human strife that was happening in your neighborhood. the people in our audience, in rock away. these are the two sisters who came to help you. what did you decide to do? >> well, it all started, i guess, the night of the hurricane. i was home in rock away. my sister was in garden city in long island. and she was saying "i made you apple turnovers.

my son wants you to come, evacuate." and i said no, dad is not evacuating, mom, our black is not evacuating so i stayed home but all of a sudden the flooding happened and i was getting really nervous and there was no way to communicate except through facebook. so my sister along with other women in our community katie and jessica created a facebook group to reach out and just let people know what was gotten on in rock away and then we quickly realized that the most important thing rock away needed was manpower. we posted something that said anybody who can come and help, just come on down to rock away. meet us on the steps of the church and anybody who needs help, email us your address. so we have these post-its and we were writing people's addresses. the true heros are the volunteers that came down from brooklyn and other parts of queens that weren't damaged in manhattan. they came down and they were willing to do anything. so we would just literally handing out post-its go to 225

beechwood. go in this address and that address. >> the two of you were there before the red cross and even fema? >> well, it was a huge community effort. there were people in rock away like megyn and kalin fitzgerald, a group of women mostly and joe. [ laughter ] got together and was just like our community needs to be cleaned up. so we just were like what needs to happen? we're like obviously everything -- everybody's basement needs to come out. needs to come out now before the mold starts spreading. so we just started sending outs groups. more people were come. all of the people from my school. >> just so many people came together. these are just three of the angels who decided to help in the matter of destruction. and some people are so grateful for what you did from animals to human beings. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> gretchen: let's go back over now to steve.
